Currency

The Mauritian unit of currency is the rupee (Rs), which is divided into 100 cents ( c ).
Travellers’ cheques bring a better rate than cash, and there are no problems with the major currencies. Personal cheques on the Eurocheque system can also be cashed, but there is a hefty commission.
You are permitted to bring Rs 700 in and take up to Rs 350 out in local currency, but duty-free items must be bought with foreign currency.
